How to Get Your Bike Ready After the Summer
Tips
In summer, motorcyclists are divided into two clearly distinct groups: those who take the opportunity to go on long routes and travel to unknown places, and those who prefer to park the bike until the heat subsides. When autumn arrives, the latter have an important task to perform: getting their ride ready. At NG BRAKES, we want you to resume your motorcycling activity in the safest way possible. Therefore, we remind you of the fundamental steps you should take before starting it up again.
- Check the battery status. Even if you disconnected and removed it before leaving it parked during the summer. We recommend that, if you have a charging and diagnostic device, you check that everything is correct before reinstalling it in the motorcycle.
- Inspect the tires. A basic step, whether it has been kept indoors or outdoors. Check that the tires have not suffered any damage and that they have the proper pressure. Most likely, they will have lost a significant amount of pressure, so you will need to inflate them to the figures specified by the manufacturer.
- Clean it thoroughly. Not just for aesthetics, but because it is essential that all parts and components are clean so you can verify they are in the correct condition and have not suffered any type of damage or corrosion.
- Check fluid levels and condition. As with any maintenance or tune-up, after the summer we must monitor the levels of brake fluid, coolant, oil, etc. In addition to this, it is advisable to assess if they have an unusual consistency. If so, it might be time to change them.
- Brake condition. Whenever we leave the bike stationary for a while, it is more than recommended to check that the brakes are in good condition before riding again. First, with a visual inspection to detect corrosion, deterioration, or even rust on the disc, and then with an actual test of their operation.
- Final check. Once you have completed all the above, our advice is to start the bike and perform some final checks. From the fuel level to the condition of the lights, which might be poorly adjusted or may have even suffered a malfunction.
- If you have doubts... To the workshop! As always, nothing beats the hands, eyes, and ultimate knowledge of a professional. Therefore, if you detect any anomaly in your bike or if there is something that makes you feel uneasy, it is best to go to your usual workshop for a full check-up of your machine.
