Covering nearly 5,300 kilometers, the DesafĂo Ruta 40 â Argentina will take place from August 25th to 31st. This is a fully off-road race that crosses four Argentine provinces, following a route parallel to the legendary National Route 40.
The competition was born in 2010 and was quickly embraced with great enthusiasm in the motorsport world. Its Dakar-style format and the breathtaking landscapes along the DesafĂo Ruta 40 course became the recipe for success.
Since 2014, the event adopted the Dakar Series format, grouping motorcycles, cars, quads and UTVs (buggies) under the prestigious Dakar brand umbrella.
The famous Route 40 runs through Argentina from north to south alongside the Andes mountain range. It crosses 11 provinces and climbs to nearly 5,000 meters above sea level. Along its way, it passes over 236 bridges, crosses 18 major rivers, borders 13 large lakes and salt flats, provides access to 20 provincial reserves and national parks, connects 27 mountain passes, goes through 60 towns and cities, and travels near five UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Los Glaciares National Park, the Cave of the Hands, Ischigualasto Provincial Park, Talampaya National Park, and the Quebrada de Humahuaca.
With such an immense variety of terrain, the vehiclesâ mechanical components are pushed to the limit. Brake systems in particular are heavily stressed to deliver maximum performance.
