Everything You Need to Know About the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship

2024 is set to be a historic year for the world of motorcycling, as for the first time the FIM will feature a women’s world championship in circuit racing, held within the framework of WSBK: the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship. To mark International Women’s Day and to help you get to know—and get ready for—this exciting new format, NG BRAKES brings you 5 key points to understand and enjoy this championship.

1. It will be part of the WSBK championship

This new women’s category will be under the umbrella of the FIM Superbike World Championship. This means that the six rounds of the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship, abbreviated as WorldWCR, will be held as part of selected WSBK rounds. Specifically, the calendar for this new championship will be:

1. Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round, Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” – June 14–16
2. Prosecco DOC UK Round, Donington Park – July 12–14
3. Pirelli Portuguese Round, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve – August 9–11
4. Hungarian Round, Balaton Park Circuit – August 23–25
5. Acerbis Italian Round, Cremona Circuit – September 20–22
6. Prometeon Spanish Round, Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto – October 18–20

2. WorldWCR weekends will follow the WorldSSP structure

The rounds of this new women’s category will follow a very straightforward structure. Fridays will start with 25 minutes of free practice and conclude with the Superpole, which will last the same amount of time and will determine the starting grid for the weekend’s races. Saturdays and Sundays will follow the same format, with a 10-minute warm-up and one long race each day.

3. Maximum equality

This new championship is a single-make series. The chosen model for the 24 selected riders is the Yamaha YZF-R7, a twin-cylinder bike producing 75 hp of maximum power. Tyres will be supplied by Pirelli. This decision has been made to ensure equal conditions for all participants, adding an extra level of excitement to the championship.

4. The grid will have 24 spots

More than 20 riders will make up this championship, all of them over 18 years old. Among them are standout names such as Ana Carrasco, the first woman to win a World Championship organised by the FIM, specifically in the Supersport 300 category.

5. How much does it cost to participate?

All WorldWCR riders will have to pay €25,000 to participate. This fee includes the use of the Yamaha YZF-R7, a GYTR race package, Pirelli tyres, fuel, paddock access, and racing services (technical assistance and mobile medical clinic support).
