Preventive Measures for Motorcyclists
The world has changed — and we all know it. The emergence of the COVID-19 virus, lethal in many cases and declared a pandemic due to its spread and virulence, has pushed us into a reality unknown until now, forcing us to adopt extra preventive measures.
Regardless of the different emergency policies that do not affect all countries equally, the self-protection habits we have adopted today bear little or no resemblance to the way we lived less than three months ago.
Environmental pollution levels have dropped to figures never seen in the last 15 years — but if we neglect this aspect, we may soon return to many of those harmful levels.
Among many other changes, restrictions on traveling using vehicles with only one occupant have highlighted the advantages of using a motorcycle.
Motorcycles can contribute to a more sustainable form of mobility, optimizing travel times and reducing space usage — greatly benefiting our environment.
If you are now a motorcycle or moped rider, remember these socio-sanitary preventive measures:
- Keep a safe distance from other road users when stopped at traffic lights.
- Optionally, you may wear a mask under your helmet — but above all, helmets should never be shared.
- Always wear protective riding gloves, but remember they do not replace medical gloves in other environments.
- Clean the controls and other surfaces of your motorcycle that may be sources of contact.
- Ride carefully. More than ever, avoid contributing to the overload of health systems. Use your head when riding.
These are some of the preventive measures to keep in mind, as reminded by Anesdor , but there are many more that common sense should guide you to follow.
We only hope this abnormal situation passes quickly and that we can return to the road as before — but with more awareness and responsibility.
