WorldSBK 2021: Calendar and Key Details

Unless an exceptional external event prevents it, the 2021 WorldSBK season will officially begin on Sunday, May 23 at MotorLand Aragón.

The WorldSBK Championship is contested with race bikes that are based on production models. Compared with standard road motorcycles, a World Superbike machine features several modifications, including: engine management, exhaust system, suspension, brakes, and various internal components.

Each bike must weigh at least 168 kg, and engine displacement ranges from 750 cc to 1200 cc, depending on the number of cylinders. Since technical rule changes introduced in 2015, the motorcycles have been subject to stricter limitations than in previous years.

The minimum age to participate in a race of the Superbike World Championship is 18 years, and the maximum age is 50 years.

This year, a total of 24 riders will form the grid at each round. Legendary names such as Jonathan Rea, Scott Redding, and Alex Lowes will line up alongside newcomers like Isaac Viñales—cousin of MotoGP rider Maverick Viñales—or Axel Bassani, who is also the youngest rider on the grid.

In total, 16 teams will compete with 5 different motorcycle models. Unless there are last-minute changes, these are: Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, Ducati Panigale V4 R, Honda CBR1000RR-R, BMW M1000RR, and Yamaha YZF-R1.
