5 Movies for Motorcycle Lovers

General

When human beings have a passion, we try to introduce it into every aspect of our lives. That is why, for example, two-wheel lovers don't just use their bikes for long trips or weekend routes. Often, they try to make their ride their daily means of transport, regardless of the weather. In this sense, there are bikers who, in addition to actively enjoying their hobby, adapt all their other interests to it, as is the case with reading or cinema. For them, at NG BRAKES, we have selected 5 movies that every motorcycle lover must see at least once in their life.

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

Directed by Walter Salles and starring Gael García Bernal and Rodrigo de la Serna, this film narrates Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s journey and his friend Alberto Granado’s trip through South America. An adventure on the back of a Norton where they discover themselves and explore the contrasts existing between the different places, societies, and individuals they encounter along the way. A true road movie where the love for motorcycles and the explorer's spirit play a major role.

The Wild One (1953)

If you are more into classic cinema, László Benedek's film, starring Marlon Brando and Mary Murphy, is a mandatory stop. Here (keeping in mind it was released in the 1950s), we find the classic image of the rebellious motorcyclist, belonging to an archaic club and fond of causing trouble wherever he goes. In the film, the protagonist Johnny, who rides a Triumph Thunderbird 650, falls for the local sheriff's daughter.

Easy Rider (1969)

Back to road movies. Directed by Dennis Hopper and starring himself, Peter Fonda, and Jack Nicholson, this film allows us to travel through a significant part of the United States, meeting a series of peculiar characters who represent, in a way, the different tribes that make up American society. A film that has also become a favorite for music lovers, thanks to its historic soundtrack.

Closer to the Edge (2011)

Moving from fiction to documentary. Closer to the Edge, directed by Richard De Aragues, allows us to closely follow Guy Martin's participation in the Isle of Man TT, specifically in the 2010 edition. With this, besides experiencing firsthand the thrill of riding the Mountain Course at over 200 kilometers per hour, it also allows us to know the truth about this competition and those who participate in it.

On Any Sunday (1971)

Continuing with documentaries, but traveling back in time. In the early 70s, Bruce Brown released this feature film exploring the passion for two wheels and the reasons—rational or irrational—behind a person's decision to risk their life participating in a motorcycle competition. It focuses especially on Steve McQueen, a motorcycling legend who continues to be admired to this day.

Bonus Track: Ford v Ferrari (2019)

This is a gift, an extra recommendation. Although it doesn't focus on the world of motorcycles, but rather cars, Ford v Ferrari (titled Le Mans '66 in some regions), directed by James Mangold and starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, perfectly captures the essence of motor racing. An exciting story that reveals the character of a figure like Ken Miles, in whom we can see many other riders recognized, and not just those on four wheels.
