Spain’s motorways are the fastest, most comfortable and safest roads for travelling long distances. However, for motorcyclists, motorways do not have the same magic as the traditional national roads, which not only provide more driving fun, but also offer spectacular scenery for maximum riding enjoyment.

It’s not the destination, it’s the journey that matters

As we know that good bikers always choose national roads instead of motorways, even if they take a little longer to reach their destination, we wanted to compile a list of the three longest national roads in Spain, which will give you a unique experience, both for the riding and the views.

1. National 340: Spain’s longest national road

With a total of 1,248 kilometres, the N-340 starts in the province of Cádiz and ends in Barcelona, crossing a total of 13 municipalities: Cádiz, Algeciras, Málaga, Motril, Murcia, Elche, Alicante, San Juan de Alicante, Valencia, Castellón, Tarragona and Barcelona.

It’s also known as the Mediterranean Road as a large part of this road runs along the coast, so you can imagine the views! However, it’s important to be very careful as this road is also known for its dangerous stretch between kilometre 678 and 698, the most dangerous stretch in Spain.

2. National 420: More than 800 kilometres along an old Roman road

The N-420 is 889 kilometres long and runs from the town of Montoro (Córdoba) to Tarragona, passing through several towns in Castilla La Mancha, Valencia and Aragon.

This route has its own history, as it’s the same as the old Roman road that linked Corduba with Tarraco, but obviously more modern and in perfect condition. If you do this route in summer, bear in mind that you may experience particularly high temperatures, so make sure you take the right equipment!

3. National 630: Cross the country from Asturias to Andalusia

The N-630 is the third longest national road in Spain. It’s 817 kilometres long and is known as the Silver Route. This route connects Gijón with Seville, linking the north with the south of Spain on a single road.
